"Adult Improvement is a Team Sport (Don't Tell Liam)" by ggk90

Although the topic occasionally is mentioned, most discussions of adult chess improvement ignore the "team" or community aspect that can provide both motivation and critical insights into our game. At the youth stage, community and structure is almost forcibly built in with classes/clubs/teams, while for adults it is optional (and sometimes difficult to find). That can be problematic because playing often, along with having some sort of useful feedback system, is probably the most common (and best) method of actually getting stronger.

Both for the entertainment value and its practical observations on chess improvement, I therefore recommend checking out the blog article "Adult Improvement is a Team Sport (Don't Tell Liam)" by ggk 90. It captures the angst, camaraderie, seriousness and even fun (gasp!) of regularly playing and looking to improve, with a more-or-less random group meeting up at a local bar. It's also a great reminder to enjoy the process while striving for better outcomes.
